Every other evening the kitchen opens at 5pm — Friday and Saturday we run through to midnight. Bank holiday Mondays we open as normal.

About us
A tandoori and balti kitchen on Market Way
Star of Asia sits on the corner of Market Way and Commercial Road, in the middle of Portsmouth. We cook traditional tandoori and balti food — the clay oven for tikka, shaslik and lamb chops, the balti pan for dishes served in their own iron bowl with naan alongside.
Cooked to order, and to your heat
Nothing is pre-plated. Every curry is built in the pan when the ticket comes in, which is why we can take a dish from korma-mild through to naga-hot without pretending. If you are not sure where you sit, ask — the staff will steer you.
What we are proud of
- Lamb shanks, slow cooked with ginger, garlic, tomato and lentils until the meat leaves the bone.
- A full duck section — masala, passanda, jalfrezi, korai, biryani and the sweet-and-sour Misty Duck Curry.
- Breads straight out of the tandoor: peshwari, keema, cheese and chilli, coriander, stuffed.
- An English menu for the table that does not want curry — steaks, omelettes, escalope and chips.
Eat in, collect or delivered
The restaurant serves from 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. Takeaway collection carries 25% off, and delivery is free once your order reaches £12. We are closed on Mondays, apart from bank holiday Mondays, when we open as usual.

Please speak to our staff about the ingredients in your meal when making your order. Tell us on the phone, or write it in the notes when you send an order through this site, and the kitchen will be told before cooking starts.
Things worth knowing
- Our kitchen handles nuts, milk, wheat, mustard, sesame, egg, fish and crustaceans daily. We cannot promise a dish is free from traces of any of them.
- Peshwari naan and several korma and passanda dishes contain nuts.
- Breads contain wheat. Most creamy sauces contain dairy.
- Heat levels are cooked to order — say mild, medium or hot when you order and we will adjust.
